chat-bots

I was surprised at chat-bots. They spoke like human but they sometimes could not understand my saying. There are various chat-bots characters:men, women, animal and Abraham Lincoln. I look forward to these AI technology developing.

WALL・E

I watched the movie “WALL・E”. This movie’s CG was very beautiful as if it was a real landscape. The main character “WALL・E” and “EVE” were cute so much. Their moves and idea were like human and lovely. But dose robots have to have emotion such human? This point is interesting in the movie. If robots were to have emotion, human would not control them. But if human could speak to them like friends, it would be exciting. I don’t know whether robots have emotion or not.
This story’s situation looked like future earth. The life of humans which live at spaceship was idle and depending on mane machines, robots and computers. I worried about future because I thought such circumstance may occur.Human will depend on robots to relieve in the future. We have to think how to associate with robots and environmental pollution. This movie told it to me.

Photography

I love taking pictures. I always carry a camera with me when I go out somewhere. Photograph is both an art and record of my life.

I took a photography class this summer. A professional photographer taught me for 3 days. The first day, the teacher introduced herself and basic knowledge of photography. The second day we went to a photography exhibition and took pictures outside. The third day we discussed the photograph exhibition and showed each other photographs which we took. I was very interested in the photography exhibition and discussion.

The name of the exhibition is "Visions of America Part 2" : This Land is Your Land. Its background is from 1918, when World WarⅠended, to 1961, when Kennedy assumed the presidency. There were 162 photographs, for example, nature, buildings, portraits, war, arts and so on. I could look at all photographs closely because the atomosphere of the photograph exhibition was very quiet. I particularly was struck by two photographs.

The next day I talked about them. I stopped in front of two photographs. These were war photographs. One photograph was “American flag raised over the Atsugi Airbase as U.S. transports land” by Carl Mydans in 1945. When I saw it, I was not able to say anything. Various feelings came across my mind. The photograph is of some soldiers of the U.S.Army raising the flag at Atsugi proudly. I felt odd. This was taken in Japan but I couldn’t believe it. I don’t have war experience. Some American bases have been in Japan since long before I was born. This persuaded me strongly that the war ended and Japan lost to America. I also thought about Japanese people of those days. They would feel sad, mortified and painful. I was filled with that many mixed feelings. Another photograph is “From Saipan” by W. Eugene Smith in 1944. This photograph is big and particularly remarkable in the exhibition. In the picture, a soldier is holding a naked baby in the battlefield in Saipan. Most students were shocked at this. We all felt humanity that the soldier pities the baby, but our teacher’s opinion was different from ours. She said this photographer wanted to tell the soldier’s humanism, but it affirms war because people will sympathize with him if they watch this. The baby’s life and the soldier’s life are equivalent.

Each photograph gave me a lot of think about the first time in my life. I was also interested in discussion because I could find other viewpoints of other people. Photography is not only just memory and arts but also has an enormous power. What photographers want to tell is that photographer want to tell and people opinion and sentiment.

*The report of Australian life*

I'd gone to Melbourne, Australia for 5 weeks this summer.
This city was very exciting for me!!

I will introduce my host family.
My host family was one mother.
She has a problem with her legs.
So she can't walk well, and she can't go shopping alone.
But she always took care of me.
I believe she is very strong woman.
And a Korean girl student stayed at her home.
Her name is Ji Yeon and same age as me.
She and I went to same English language school.
I talked to her a lot!
Now I keep in touch her by e-mail.

In English language school, I made many friends:Japanese, Chinese, Taiwanese, Korean,Soudi Arabian...
I tried to talk with international students as much as possible.
After school I went to city with my friends!
We went shopping, had lunch and went sightseeing etc...
Our English skills were not good.
But we could communicate very well!!!

A weekend, I took a package tour of Zoo and the Phillip Island with my friends.
I could watch many Australian animals and feed them in the zoo.

And I also could watch the fairy penguins in the Phillip Island.

They are the smallest penguins in the world.

These experiences were incredibly precious in my life.
I wanna go there again as fast as I can...

My host family

I'm going to go to Australia this summer.

Last Wednesday, I received my host family's information.
I was surprised to watch it.
Because family member is only mother!
And she will be 79 year old in November!!
I supposed that family were 3 or 4 members.

She likes cooking.
I want to be taught cooking, if she allowed it.
And I also want to talk Australian history with her.
Plus there is her house near Monash college when I checked it.

I'm lucky!!

The upper picture is penguins in Phillip Island in Australia.
